Finding out the name of this particular rifle has taken some time to research. With help from Tom ( who is more knowledgeable in weaponary than myself ) has come to a conclusion of an M1917 Enfield.
We came accross a similar rifle with a name of P14 Enfield. This one was the 1914 weapon, a predecessor of the 1917 rifle, both used by home guards (These were local volunteers who acted as a secondary defence force).
Although the weapons have similar appearances, each take different ammunition. And so to avoid confusion, the later M1917 was marked with a red stripe around the stock. The rifle in my photograph doesn't have this 'red stripe'. Does this mean it is a P14?
We looked futher into the features of both rifles and realised the M1917 is 'rounded' underneath the stock for a deeper magazine. Pehaps these weapons weren't used by the home guard, or maybe the 'red stripe' wore off...

On Sunday, Tom drove us up to Leyburn in North Yorkshire to visit an annual Forties, wartime themed event. There were union flags, period cars and people dressed in Forties clothing, including Forces uniforms. Iv'e never seen anything quite like it! As soon as we approached the little village I saw groups of people walking up and down the main road. It was surreal... the local shops had decorated their windows with flags and bunting and there was a military vehicle display in the centre. I managed to capture a few interesting moments which I will post soon....
